Wage Types and Premium Rules
The items carry the wage type numbers used by your payroll software so that the payroll export can be processed there. Maintain them here.
Requirements
- Owner role
- The wage type numbers from your payroll software are available
Where to find it
Settings, Payroll section, Wage types & premiums card. It has three parts: wage types, premium rules and calculation behavior, plus the public holiday calendar.
Wage types
Maintain the number, name and type for each wage type. The types are Base wage, Premium, Absence, Manual item and Other.
The number must be unique within the company and can be adapted to the payroll software you use. The number and name are included in the wage type CSV file.
Entries marked System are predefined and cannot be deleted. Their functional type is fixed. However, their number, name and active status can still be changed. A wage type used by a rule also cannot be deleted.

Calculation behavior
Three switches and one selection affect the entire payroll preview. All three switches are off by default so that an existing preview does not change without your input.
- Continued remuneration during absence. Approved sickness and approved leave are paid and appear as separate rows. See the next section.
- Basis during sickness. This can only be selected when continued remuneration is on. See the next section.
- Prorate fixed pay. On entry or departure, fixed pay is divided according to the actual calendar days in the month.
- Time rounding. Interval in minutes and direction: commercial rounding, rounding down or rounding up. The card also shows a calculation example.
Rounding applies once across the report, payroll, analysis and working time account. It is not recalculated separately for each view.

Continued remuneration in detail
This is an opt-in switch and is off by default. Entgeltfortzahlung, meaning continued remuneration, does not appear in the preview until you turn it on.
The daily formula. For each paid working day, the calculation uses a daily rate from the contract data: weekly hours divided by contractual working days gives the daily hours, which are then multiplied by the hourly wage for that day. Contractual hours and contractual working days are therefore required. If either is missing, the preview states this in the row instead of silently calculating with zero.
Two calculation bases during sickness. The daily rate based on contractual hours uses the daily hours above for every day of sickness. The Lohnausfallprinzip, meaning the loss-of-earnings principle, instead uses the minutes of the shift planned for that day, minus time already worked. If you schedule many shifts of different lengths, the Lohnausfallprinzip is closer to reality. In both cases, leave remains based on the daily rate from contractual hours.
The sickness limit. For each case of sickness, 42 consecutive calendar days from the start are paid. If a case continues beyond that point, the preview indicates this so that it is clear that Krankengeld, meaning sickness benefit, takes over from then on.
Fixed pay. Security officers with fixed pay do not receive separate rows because continued remuneration is already included in the monthly amount.
Important context: This is a preview for the handoff, not a completed payroll statement. Your payroll office still decides whether an entitlement exists in an individual case and how it is calculated.
Public holiday calendar
The country and, where relevant, the federal state determine which public holidays the rules match. Without a federal state, only nationwide public holidays apply.
The same calendar is also used for a deal's public holiday rates.
